It was 1965 when the expansion team franchise was awarded to actor Danny Thomas and lawyer Joseph Robbie and the Miami Dolphins joined the AFL. The Miami Dolphins began to play in 1966 under head coach George Wilson that was replaced by Don Shula after losing for four consecutive seasons and eventually joining the NFL after the AFL-NFL merger was completed in 1970.

The Miami Dolphins made its first Super Bowl appearance in 1972. The Dolphins completed a perfect season winning all 14 regular season games, 2 playoffs and Super Bowl VII in 1972. The team also bagged the Super Bowl VIII, becoming the first team to qualify for three consecutive Super Bowls. Under Don Shula for most of the Dolphins’ history, they only posted two losing records of his 26 seasons. Six Hall-of-Famers played for the Miami dolphins in the 70’s, including the running back Larry Csonka and quarterback Bob Griese. Dan Marino became the most creative passer in the NFL in 80’s and 90’s, breaking a lot passing records and leading the Dolphins in numerous playoff appearances and Super Bowl XIX.

Last season, the Miami Dolphins finished 1-15 with a 14-game losing streak. Later that year, two-time Super Bowl winning coach Bill Parcells was named VP of Football Operations for the Dolphins and after the season finale, Parcells fired GM Randy Mueller along with Cam Cameron and all of his staff. This year could be a great one for the Miami Dolphins, with a new head coach Tony Sparano and the number one pick in the NFL draft.
